Bliq and Denim Solar relaunch under The Sharing Group as a key step toward a shareable virtual power plant
Amsterdam, December 19 - The Sharing Group, the group behind sharing companies such as MyWheels, EnergyZero and Hegg Energy, has incorporated energy companies Bliq, a provider of energy management software for smart home batteries, and Denim Solar, a supplier of solar panels under its own brand. As part of The Sharing Group, both companies are an important piece of the puzzle in the movement's shareable energy offering.
Founded in 2019, Bliq has offered both software and hardware for smart deployment of home batteries. In order to do so, it cooperates with multiple energy suppliers and grid operators, as well as more than 160 installation partners. Bliq's platform pairs with virtually all known home battery manufacturers.
Despite seeing a YoY revenue growth of 500% in 2024, the company filed for bankruptcy in November. This bankruptcy was triggered by the collapse of mother company Solarclarity Group, of which both Bliq and Denim Solar were part of, finding itself in dire straits due to a changing market. Bliq and Denim Solar together count 21 employees and are now relaunching in unchanged form under The Sharing Group.
Through the Bliq app, consumers are not only able to charge and discharge their home battery for their own benefit, but also to help solve grid congestion. In close cooperation with local grid operators, home batteries can be deployed to relieve grid congestion when needed. A recent pilot with Dutch grid operator Alliander marked a major milestone in this development. Denim Solar, founded in 2013, is active in seven countries throughout Europe and focuses on delivering high-quality, ethically produced solar panels.
Peter Desmet, CEO of Bliq & Denim Solar, says: “It is our mission to reform the energy market. We believe it is possible to combat grid congestion while lowering costs for consumers at the same time. Bliq connects all parties involved and because of that, we can create an optimal scenario when combined with a home battery. We do this in cooperation with grid operators, energy suppliers and of course the consumer, who has the freedom to choose the scenario that is best for their personal situation.”
Operating within The Sharing Group, Bliq and Denim Solar will partner with EnergyZero and Hegg Energy to offer a complete energy management solution. This includes hardware, in the form of solar panels and home batteries, as well as the necessary software and an in-house energy supplier. By doing so, the group aims to create a virtual power plant which is shared among members for everyone’s benefit.
Henri de Jong, CEO of The Sharing Group, says: “We call it ‘The People's Powerplant’: a power plant for everyone, by everyone. Our ambition is to approach energy in the smartest way possible, empowering consumers to be part of the energy transition while allowing them to benefit financially. Bliq and Denim Solar are an important link in making sure that we can not only manage dynamic prices and grid imbalance, but above all - in close cooperation with grid operators - combat the problem which is grid congestion.”
