Amsterdam, February 5th 2025 – Leafcloud, a Dutch provider of sustainable cloud services and a recent member of The Sharing Group, appoints Martijn van Zoeren, a veteran of the cloud sector, as CEO with the goal of elevating Leafcloud into a leading player in Europe’s IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) market.
With ten years of experience as CEO at Dutch Cloud Provider and co-founder of one of Europe’s early cloud providers, Martijn van Zoeren brings a wealth of knowledge to his new role. David Kohnstamm, founder and CSO of Leafcloud: “Martijn’s arrival allows us to accelerate our growth strategy. Beyond a clear growth plan, he brings experience, determination, and an unending drive to effectively introduce our innovative technology and sustainable ambitions into the market.”
Research by ‘the shift project’ indicates that software and cloud computing contribute to 3-4% of global CO2 emissions - more than aviation, with this figure set to increase due to AI advancements. Leafcloud is addressing this challenge by positioning its cloud infrastructure in buildings capable of utilizing the heat generated, converting what would otherwise be wasted into a valuable resource for water heating and building warmth. With the rapid growth of AI, demand for effective and sustainable cloud solutions is on the rise, reinforcing the relevance and impact of Leafcloud.
With ambitions aligned to the EU’s goal of keeping data within Europe, focusing on privacy, sovereignty, and sustainability, Leafcloud offers a true European alternative in cloud computing. Martijn van Zoeren has been appointed to facilitate this ambition.
Martijn van Zoeren, CEO at Leafcloud: “Leafcloud is poised for exponential growth. I am excited to make a tangible impact by establishing a green standard in cloud services across Europe. We have scalable infrastructure available and the financial means to realize ambitious growth plans. Most importantly, I get to collaborate with brilliant minds.”
As Leafcloud embarks on its next development stage, it requires a stronger organizational structure, including establishing an advisory board. In line with this transition, Martijn van Zoeren will assume the CEO role from Niek de Jong, who will continue to utilize his expertise by serving on the board.
