Amsterdam, May 23 – The Sharing Group, the parent company behind shared economy ventures such as MyWheels, Hegg Energy, and Bliq, has been nominated for the Transition Awards 2025 in the Energy category with its project, the People’s Power Plant. The platform is among the final five selected from a total of 237 entries. According to organizer nlmtd, the nomination affirms the project’s tangible contribution to the sustainable transition in the Netherlands.
Grid congestion and rising energy costs are posing major challenges in the current Dutch energy landscape. Addressing these issues requires broad collaboration between households and strategic partners such as grid operators, property managers, and energy suppliers.
With the People’s Power Plant, The Sharing Group is building a decentralized, community-driven platform for energy systems to facilitate cooperation among stakeholders. By smartly managing batteries, bi-directional charging stations (in cooperation with We Drive Solar), and other energy carriers, flexible energy capacity is made available, functioning as a virtual power plant. This enables both consumers and grid operators to use energy more efficiently, sustainably, and cost-effectively.
Henri de Jong, founder and CEO of The Sharing Group, states: “The energy transition is a collective effort. That’s why we are committed to addressing challenges like grid congestion through shared entrepreneurship. We are proud that our collective effort for the People’s Power Plant is being recognized with a nomination for the Transition Awards. It confirms that a shared approach can deliver powerful solutions within the energy transition.”
The Sharing Group combines entrepreneurship, innovation, and shared ownership in an overarching platform for companies operating in online services, energy, and mobility. The group follows a central strategy while promoting independence within its affiliated platforms. Moreover, employees, customers, and investors are co-owners in the form of ‘aandelers’ (shareholders). With the People’s Power Plant, the synergy between energy and mobility is integrated with this focus on sharing goods and services, aiming to amplify impact and accelerate the sustainable transition.
