Eindhoven, May 27, 2025 - Today, euqai officially launches two groundbreaking European AI services: the euqai.eu API platform for businesses and the quizi.nl search engine for consumers. These innovative services offer a European alternative with privacy, ethics, and sustainability at their core.
The call for European alternatives to American technology is growing louder among both businesses and consumers. euqai’s new services specifically address this rising demand:
- euqai.eu: A fully GDPR-compliant API platform offering businesses a rapidly deployable alternative to American AI services.
- quizi.nl: A privacy-focused European search engine showcasing what’s possible with euqai technology.
“Europe is currently heavily reliant on American tech companies, yet AI is key to our future digital sovereignty,” says Merien ten Houten, CEO and founder of euqai. “With our technology, we are not just building a European alternative—we are setting a new standard for AI that truly serves people and businesses, without hidden agendas or compromises on privacy.”
Unlike existing AI platforms, euqai was built from the ground up with privacy as a fundamental principle. The services:
This approach aligns with the new EU AI Act and provides organizations with a risk-free alternative to services that may not meet these stringent regulations. Quizi does not rely on any American search engines. The entire service is European. Quizi uses AI to search and summarize results. Currently in beta, Quizi will improve over time based on user feedback and anonymized usage data.
euqai also distinguishes itself through the use of Leafcloud’s innovative server infrastructure, which places servers in buildings that require heat, such as swimming pools and care
euqai was founded by Merien ten Houten, a pioneer behind platforms such as nu.nl, Leapfunder, and Amber. In the 1990s, he co-founded the search engine ilse.nl. “Old habits die hard,” says Ten Houten. “I’ve kept an eye on search engine developments over the past 30 years. Google has long dominated both technically and in terms of market share. But the criticism is growing louder. This is a moment when alternatives can gain traction.”
euqai aims to become the market leader in ethical AI services in Europe. The company collaborates with The Sharing Group, which supports and helps scale initiatives like this. “We invite organizations to join us in building a European AI ecosystem that strengthens our shared values,” says Ten Houten. “This is the time to prove that innovation can go hand in hand with ethics, sustainability, and privacy.”
