The Sharing Group wins Public Choice Award at Transition Awards 2025

People’s Power Plant voted Public Favorite in Energy Transition

Amsterdam, July 1, 2025 – The Sharing Group, the parent company behind shared economy ventures such as MyWheels, Hegg Energy, and Bliq, has won the Public Choice Award at the 2025 Transition Awards hosted by Change.inc for its project People’s Power Plant. Out of a selection of 237 submissions, the public recognized the project as the most inspiring contribution to the energy transition.

The Transition Awards are presented annually to initiatives that demonstrably contribute to a more sustainable Netherlands. The Public Choice Award reflects broad societal appreciation and engagement with efforts to tackle urgent challenges like grid congestion and rising energy costs.

People’s Power Plant

With the People’s Power Plant, The Sharing Group is developing a decentralized, community-driven energy system. By intelligently managing batteries, bi-directional charging stations (in collaboration with We Drive Solar), and other energy carriers, flexible capacity is made available. This virtual power plant enables both households and grid operators to manage energy more efficiently, sustainably, and cost-effectively.

Joost van Rooij, CMO of The Sharing Group, says: “The fact that the public chose our project makes this award especially meaningful. We are building an energy system based on collaboration and shared ownership. This recognition affirms that people resonate with our approach and believe in the power of collective solutions.”

Shared Entrepreneurship as a Driver of Change

The Sharing Group unites entrepreneurship, innovation, and shared ownership within a platform of companies operating in energy, mobility, and online services. Through an equity model, customers, employees, and investors are co-owners of the organization. This unique structure forms the foundation for sustainable growth and social impact.

The Public Choice Award for the People’s Power Plant highlights the importance of working together toward a future-proof energy system in which everyone can play an active role.
