Renault Group and We Drive Solar launch the first Dutch V2G service for private EV drivers in collaboration with Hegg Energy
Amsterdam, 27 November 2025 – Renault Group and We Drive Solar, in collaboration with Hegg Energy – part of The Sharing Group – are introducing the first large-scale Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) AC service for private electric vehicle drivers in the Netherlands. This innovative service enables consumers to use their electric car as temporary energy storage, helping them reduce electricity costs while contributing to a more stable power grid.
This step follows the earlier launch of Europe’s largest V2G car-sharing project in Utrecht, where MyWheels shared cars – also part of The Sharing Group – feed energy back into the local grid.
In the Netherlands, more than 70% of EV drivers have solar panels*. With the upcoming phase-out of the net-metering scheme (January 2027), the desire to use inexpensive or self-generated energy efficiently is increasing. V2G makes this possible: charging becomes bidirectional. The car can charge at moments when sustainable energy is plentiful and electricity prices are low, and discharge when demand on the power grid is high.
For the user, this has no impact on driving range: the Hegg app automatically ensures that the car is charged to the desired level at the moment it is needed.

- A dynamic energy contract from Hegg Energy (powered by EnergyZero) and accompanying app.
In addition, the home must have a 3-phase connection, a smart meter, a fixed internet connection and a suitable location for installing a charging station.
Hegg Energy is part of The Sharing Group, which also includes MyWheels. MyWheels is a partner in Utrecht’s leading V2G car-sharing project, where shared cars are used as energy storage for the neighbourhood. Thanks to the combined knowledge and experience of the partners, Hegg Energy is able to optimally support consumers in transitioning to bidirectional charging.
In the coming weeks, a select group of early adopters will begin onboarding for the new V2G service. The full market launch for all Dutch consumers is planned for the first half of 2026. Later that year, the service will also become available for other Renault Group models equipped with the required V2G technology.
