The Sharing Group and WePositive join forces to make new housing developments possible again through local energy hubs

Amsterdam, 4 February 2026 – The Sharing Group, the group behind sharing companies such as Mijndomein, MyWheels, EnergyZero and Hegg Energy, has acquired a minority stake in WePositive. With this investment, both parties deepen their collaboration around smart energy hubs for residential districts, enabling new housing development and sustainability efforts to continue within the limits of the electricity grid.

The construction of more than 500,000 homes is under pressure or has come to a standstill due to grid congestion. By balancing and sharing energy locally, both behind and in front of the meter, housing projects become feasible again and capacity is created for new connections. To this end, WePositive is developing a district energy management system that intelligently connects homes, smart devices and existing Energy Management Systems (EMS). Through the collaboration with The Sharing Group, bidirectional shared cars from MyWheels can be deployed as mobile neighborhood batteries, forming an integral part of the district energy system.

The projects and expertise of WePositive align closely with the vision behind The Sharing Group’s People’s Power Plant: a fair, transparent and decentralized energy system in which residents retain control over their own energy. “The energy transition requires a layered energy system in which local autonomy and scalability come together,” says Yanick Slikboer, founder and CEO of WePositive.Energy. “We add a decentralized, district-level layer that operates beyond individual grid connections, coordinating local energy assets while being designed to function in thousands of neighborhoods. The collaboration with The Sharing Group accelerates the scaling of this model.”

People’s Power Plant

WePositive forms the local district layer within The Sharing Group’s People’s Power Plant. With its technology for energy sharing and congestion management at neighborhood level, WePositive connects homes and energy assets into one smart local energy system. The People’s Power Plant then aggregates this local flexibility into a virtual power plant that can operate on the energy market. In this way, both initiatives reinforce each other in realizing a transparent, decentralized and scalable energy system in which residents remain in control of their own energy.

“The philosophy of WePositive – organizing energy locally together – fits seamlessly with our mission,” says Henri de Jong, founder and CEO of The Sharing Group. “Their technical expertise, ongoing projects and strong network among property developers accelerate our ambition to realize a shareable energy market, with congestion management and local energy trading at its core.”

Ecowijk Mandora

WePositive was founded less than two years ago and currently employs seven people. The start-up is growing rapidly due to urgent demand from the market. WePositive is running several pilot projects, including in the Mandora eco-district in Houten, where around 30 households are participating in an energy-sharing pilot. Residents gain insight into their own energy consumption and that of the neighborhood, share locally generated energy, and are rewarded for shared kilowatt-hours. In addition to awareness and behavioral change, the focus lies on automation, including through electric vehicles, home batteries and district batteries. WePositive also contributes to the development of an open S2 ecosystem, a project by TKI Urban Energy and TNO, aimed at the smart, independent and interoperable control of devices within residential neighborhoods.
