Amsterdam, Dec. 11, 2024 - The Sharing Group, the group behind sharing companies such as Mijndomein, MyWheels, and Hegg Energy, announces its acquisition of Greenhost, a Dutch pioneer in sustainable hosting and cloud services. Through this strategic acquisition, The Sharing Group positions itself at the forefront for future development of sustainable European cloud hosting.
Founded in 2001, Greenhost is one of the first hosting parties to fully commit to sustainable online services. The company specializes in sustainable hosting, with a particular focus on data privacy and open source software. Not only the hardware - on which the virtual servers run - is carefully selected based on the company’s sustainability requirements, Greenhost's office, energy supplier and furniture meet these same high standards.
As part of The Sharing Group, Greenhost will further scale up operations and continue its work for clients such as Free Press Unlimited, SURF and Waag Futurelab. The company will retain its own name as well as its entire team. Collaboration within The Sharing Group will drive further expansion of sustainable cloud hosting services to different markets.
The Sharing Group and Greenhost share the ambition to offer a fully European cloud-based alternative to Big-Tech. This provides a solution to the demands of organizations that are not willing or allowed to share data outside of Europe and do not want to depend on systems overseen by non-European government bodies.
“In a changing market, we have found a partner in The Sharing Group to scale up our growth. The uniqueness of the group safeguards our core values, which our customers have specifically chosen for. The continuity offered, with the prospect of developing a European alternative to Big Tech, makes for a fruitful partnership to which we look forward with great enthusiasm,” said Mart van Santen, Founder and Managing Director Greenhost.
