Rotterdam, April 30 – MyWheels has expanded its fleet of electric shared cars in Rotterdam by adding 30 vehicles. This brings the total number of electric shared cars operated by the provider in the city to approximately 230. Earlier in March, the fleet was already expanded with 15 electric shared cars and new electric vans.
With the addition of these electric shared cars, residents and businesses in Rotterdam have more opportunities to use shared electric mobility. The vehicles are distributed across different neighborhoods in the city, are available for both private and business use, and can be reserved via an app. The current fleet of around 200 MyWheels shared cars in Rotterdam collectively drives nearly 300,000 kilometers each month — equivalent to circling the Earth 7.5 times.
As of January, all shared cars in Rotterdam are fully electric, as part of the city’s sustainable mobility policy. Rotterdam is the first city in the Netherlands to take this step. The measure contributes to reducing CO₂ emissions, improving air quality, and promoting more sustainable mobility in the city.
“With this expansion, we are increasing our fleet of shared cars and electric vans in Rotterdam,” says Joppe de Hoog, City Manager Rotterdam and The Hague at MyWheels. “This makes it easier for more people to use a car when they need one, and also to easily reserve a van for transporting larger items or for example a move.”
MyWheels is a car-sharing platform with over 250,000 members and offers the largest and most diverse fleet of electric shared cars in the Netherlands. Together with more than 800 volunteer “key figures” (local ambassadors), we make it possible for everyone to enjoy cars in an environmentally friendly and cost-efficient way, without owning one. This helps create more space on the streets, more room for greenery, and contributes significantly to the environment. MyWheels is also taking the next step in the energy transition together with partner We Drive Solar. In Utrecht, residents are the first in the Netherlands to experience at scale the positive impact of a ‘mobile neighborhood battery’.
