Eindhoven, 29 October 2026 – Car-sharing provider MyWheels is expanding its fleet in Eindhoven with 23 new electric Renault 4s, bringing the total number of MyWheels shared cars in the city to 108. The new vehicles are part of a nationwide expansion involving 450 electric shared cars. More than 80% of the MyWheels fleet is now fully electric, making it the largest electric car-sharing fleet in the Netherlands.
The fully electric Renault 4 has a driving range of 310 kilometres, making it suitable for both short trips around the city and longer journeys beyond Eindhoven. With 420 litres of boot space, there is plenty of room for groceries, a pushchair or luggage for a weekend away. The first nine Renault 4s have already been deployed at various locations across Eindhoven, including Irisbuurt, Lievendaal, de Bennekel, Het Ven, Lakerlopen, Kronehoef and Meerhoven. They are available to book immediately through the MyWheels app. The remaining 14 vehicles will be introduced at a later date.
With this expansion, MyWheels aims to give more Eindhoven residents access to a shared car close to home for occasions when cycling or public transport is not a practical option. This makes car sharing an alternative to owning a vehicle that sits unused for much of the time.
“Even if you don't drive every day, there are still times when you need a car,” says Bas van der Kolk, Regional Manager for Eindhoven at MyWheels. “Whether you're visiting family outside the city or travelling with a lot of luggage, it's convenient to have a car nearby. With 23 new Renault 4s, we're making this possible for more Eindhoven residents, without them having to own a car themselves. These Renault 4s also support bidirectional charging, meaning they can both draw electricity from the grid and feed it back.”
The expansion in Eindhoven is part of a nationwide addition of 450 electric shared cars. With 23 new Renault 4s, Eindhoven is among the cities seeing the largest increases in the availability of this model. New electric shared cars are also being introduced in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam and The Hague.
Following the expansion, more than 80% of MyWheels' nationwide fleet is now fully electric. The new Renault 4s can also play a role in the energy system. Together with We Drive Solar and Renault Group, MyWheels is working on Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology, which enables electric vehicles to feed electricity back into the power grid. In Eindhoven, electric shared cars are already being used as ‘mobile neighbourhood batteries’. These vehicles can help manage peaks in electricity demand and reduce pressure on the power grid.
