MyWheels expands in Amsterdam with 76 new electric Renault 4s

Amsterdam, 29 October 2026 – Car-sharing provider MyWheels is expanding its fleet in Amsterdam with 76 new electric Renault 4s, bringing the total number of MyWheels shared cars in the capital to 846. The new vehicles are part of a nationwide expansion involving 450 electric shared cars. More than 80% of the MyWheels fleet is now fully electric, making it the largest electric car-sharing fleet in the Netherlands.

The fully electric Renault 4 has a driving range of 310 kilometres, making it suitable for both short trips around the city and longer journeys beyond Amsterdam. With 420 litres of boot space, there is plenty of room for groceries, a pushchair or luggage for a weekend away. The first 20 Renault 4s have already been deployed at various locations across Amsterdam, including Indische Buurt, Watergraafsmeer, IJburg, Amsterdam-Noord, Houthavens and De Baarsjes. They are available to book immediately through the MyWheels app. The remaining 56 vehicles will be introduced at a later date.

A car nearby whenever you need one

With this expansion, MyWheels aims to give more Amsterdam residents access to a shared car close to home for occasions when cycling or public transport is not a practical option. This makes car sharing an attractive alternative to owning a vehicle that sits unused for much of the time.

“In Amsterdam, owning a car isn't necessarily the norm, but there are still times when you need one because cycling or public transport simply isn't enough,” says David de Zwart, Regional Manager for North Holland at MyWheels. “Ultimately, it's not about owning a car, but about having the freedom to get around whenever you want. With 76 new Renault 4s, we're making that freedom accessible to even more Amsterdam residents, without them having to own a car themselves.”

Electric shared cars

The expansion in Amsterdam is part of a nationwide addition of 450 electric shared cars. With 76 new vehicles, Amsterdam receives the largest share of this expansion. MyWheels is also expanding its fleet in cities including Utrecht, Eindhoven, Rotterdam and The Hague.

Following the expansion, more than 80% of the MyWheels fleet is now fully electric. With over 3,000 shared cars across the Netherlands, MyWheels offers a suitable vehicle for almost every occasion, from a premium Tesla and a spacious Hyundai Kona or Kia e-Niro to a compact Renault 5. For transporting larger items, users can also choose a MyWheels vehicle such as the electric Kia PV5 van. By expanding its fleet in locations where demand is high, MyWheels aims to give more people access to electric mobility while making the most efficient use of its available vehicles.
